OHORDUA – The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has presented Staff of Office to the Onogie of Ohordua Kingdom, HRH Stephen Oribhabor Ailuojierior.

He presented the symbol of authority to the monarch last Saturday at a colourful ceremony held at his palace in Ohordua Community, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State

The governor who was represented by the Edo State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Jimoh Ijegbai congratulated the monarch and the people of Ohordua on the event, which he described as landmark.

He revealed that his administration has increased allocation to traditional rulers in the state by directing all councils to in addition to the five per cent statutory allocation due to them, pay another five percent of other revenues as grant to traditional rulers.

He urged the people of Ohordua to rally round their monarch to enable him discharge his duties as the clan head, just as he appealed to the monarch to use his exalted office to chart for peace, order and development at all times.

He equally advised the monarch and subjects of Ohordua kingdom to be vigilant and report any strange and suspicious character in their midst to law enforcement agencies, to reduce crime and engender peace in the community.

In a speech read on behalf of the community by Prof. Sylvanus Ebohon, Ohordua people expressed gratitude to the governor for the presentation of staff of Office to their monarch, and congratulated him on his party’s overwhelmingt victory at the last State Assembly elections

The community used the opportunity to request the governor to interface with his Delta State counterpart stop the insecurity threat arising from boundary dispute between Ohordua Community and Ugbodu Community of Delta State.

“We use this opportunity to request Your Excellency’s intervention to retrieve land including other material assets that truly belong to Edo State from our neighbours in Delta State, without loss of lives”, they appealed.

The chairman of Esan South East Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Emuakhagbon appreciated the governor for honouring the community with presentation of the Staff of Office and highlighted about 18 projects already executed by his administration.

He used the opportunity to solicit for the governor’s assistance to curb the gruesome activities of herdsmen, which he lamented had claimed many lives, and caused many people to abandon their farms.
