BENIN CITY- Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has tasked 2,050 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to be good nation builders as he declared the three weeks 2019 Batch “B” Stream 1 orientation course closed.
Governor Godwin Obaseki who was represented by Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu, Esq., watched the excellent display of formations and subsequent inspection of parade by youth Corpers, declared: “Your positive impact must be felt in all sectors of the economy, most especially within your host communities, in moving them from their present situation to the next level.”
While informing the corpers of the premium the state government places on the NYSC scheme, he encouraged them to synergize with government at ensuring the successful implementation of policies geared towards the welfare of the people.
Acknowledging the youths for their singular effort at accepting the clarion call to serve and contribute their quota to the development of the state, Obaseki informed them of the friendly disposition of Edo people.
Shedding more light on this, he said,”As you move into the various communities in Edo State, you will find the right environment to live and work.”
He also urged them to, “Go into the midst of the people, interact with them freely and respect their traditions and cultures wherever you find yourself…Edo people are peaceful, loving, enlightened, accommodating and God fearing.”
The Edo State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Adebayo Ojo, expressed his appreciation to Edo State Government and all well meaning people for their moral and financial support which contributed to the success of the orientation course.
He revealed that there was no case of serious injuries or ill health recorded during the orientation course, adding that the posting of corp members was done on the basis of the request form from the various establishments.
He also encouraged corp employers to address the welfare needs of corp members posted to them to enable them put in their best in the areas of minimum accommodation, settlement of medical bills, transportation and other welfare needs.
The state NYSC Coordinator reminded the Corpers that acquired skills and experiences from the orientation course form the springboard of their decisions and choice, both now and in subsequent careers in life.
Highlights of the closing ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding camp officials.
