ABUJA: Scores of persons have been reportedly killed ,dozens kidnapped and several houses burnt as gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram attacked various various communities along the Abuja- Kaduna road in Nigeria.
The incident occurred around Gidan Busa, a community not far away from Rijana,in the outskirts of Abuja.
It was gathered that not less than 60 persons were killed as the gunmen suspected to be criminal gangs aligned to Boko Haram, which is waging a brutal and relentless war in states across Nigeria, stormed the communities three days ago.
Our sources said apart from the scores of people killed by the gunmen, many others including women and children were kidnapped and taken to the bush. Many of the inhabitants who went missing after the bloody attacks have not been accounted for while some were believed to have taken refuge in bushes around the besieged communities.
Witnesses said the attackers armed with sophiscated weapons stormed the area and opened fire on the helpless people who panicked for hours as gunshots rang through the communities.
” Communities on the Kaduna – Abuja highway are no longer safe. Gunmen now frequently lay siege on Kurmin Kare, Zuba,Gidan Mallam Mamman and Rijana ” our sources said.
Kaduna police spokesman, Jalige said they were on top of the situation as the entire area had been combed while efforts are on to rescue the kidnapped victims.
Dozens of attacks have been recorded in Nigeria since the beginning of the year, despite efforts to calm the situation by the government
Recent activities of gunmen operating in that axis had prompted Nigeria’s army chief, Tukur Buratai to deploy more troops, with a mandate to end the killings and rampant destruction of property, including farmlands.
