Abraka – There was chaos yesterday at Abraka, in Ethiope East local government area of Delta State, following the death of a commercial motorcyclist, who was crushed by a white MAN Diesel truck, with registration number Delta WWR 61 YQ.

The accident which took place at the police station junction, in the university town, was as a result of over speeding, on the part of the utility truck, loaded with iron poles.

The truck, heading towards Warri from Agbor was among motorists flagged down by a police operative, escorting a yet to be identified construction company vehicle.

It however took the police at the Abraka police station several hours to restore order, as it almost snowballed into a full-blown protest by commercial motorcyclists.

According to an eyewitness in pigin English, “the police wen dey escort company motor wen dey come from police station road side, say make motor stop, so their own motor go pass.

“And the truck dey on high speed, so d driver no fit control himself again, na im scatter the man and im machine”.

However, the deceased, later identified as 35 years-old John Nwabenu, is a father of five, who hails from Obiaruku community, in Ukwani local government area, where he also operates a motorcycle mechanic workshop.

“I don cook food finish say make i eat, na my phone ring, the person say him dey call from Abraka, say make i come now now now now, say my junior brother wen dem born follow me motor don kill am for Abraka”, Tony Nwabenu, the older sibling of the deceased told our correspondent at Obiaruku

Meanwhile, the police has deposited the remains of the deceased in a mortuary, while the truck driver was detained at the Abraka station.
