BENIN CITY- The Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Prof. Sylvanus Okogbenin, abducted by gunmen over a week ago, has been left off the hook.

He was said to have regained his freedom yesterday morning.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Mr Danmallam Mohammed confirmed the CMD’s release in Benin City, yesterday.

” He has been released unhurt and has been reunited with his family,” CP DanMallam stated.
Also, the chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Mr. Valentine Omoifo confirmed the release of the CMD.

“The good thing is that the man has been released and has been reunited with his family; the details where and how was released is not before us”. The NMA Chairman stated.

It will be recalled that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had about 10:00a.m, Monday, August 26, 2019 abducted the CMD after two policemen attached to him were gunned down during the operation.

The gunmen after shooting to death the two cops identified as Sergeants Odion Jonathan Ajibola and Etinosa Erhuegbea, both of Irrua Police Divisional Headquarters, fled with their loaded two AK 47 rifles.

The armed men who operated in two tinted vehicles attacked the CMD’s convoy at the busy Ramat Park in Benin City, having trailed him from Irrua-Ekpoma-Benin axis of the state.
The CMD was said to be on his way to catch Abuja bound flight where he was expected to attend a conference, when the gunmen struck.
