Benin City – A group known as the Sapphire Shield Safety Awareness Initiative (SSSAI), said for the Nigerian Police to succeed in their bid to curbing insecurity in the country, they needed to be technologically driven.

This assertion was made by the Executive Director, Rev. Sheriff Azeke during the official unveiling of the group’s logo in Benin City.

According to Rev. Azeke, “the world is now a global village and with technology, we can connect with any part of the world within another.

“When it comes to security coverage, there is a surveillance cameras of different types that can be used to record different crime scenes. The Police is supposed to have revolving cameras in different parts of a city.

“I want to also appeal to the Nigerian Government to increase the staff strength of the Police Force and increase their monthly salary. If all these things are put in place, there will be an attitudinal change among the Police.

The SSSAI boss said the goal of the group is to ensure that everyone has basic knowledge of security related issues irrespective of one’s class or status.

“Our purpose include educating and creating strong security grassroot awareness among citizens; assist other related security agencies in the fight against insecurity; educating the people who can make impactful contributions to national security development; and curbing the rising trend of insecurity in our world through security enlightenment programmes”.

Also speaking, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP DanMallam, who was represented by SP Daniel Ogbee, an Operations Officer in the Edo State Command, commended the initiator and described the project as laudable.

“The initiative is a formidable and fundamental platform designed to dispense vital information on security related issues through an intensive grassroot campaign, sensitization, and enlightenment of the citizens; we are proud to be associated with them”, the police boss said.

The logo of SSSAI was officially unveiled by SP Daniel Ogbee.

A book titled “Necessity of Security Awareness” written by Rev. Sheriff Azeke and reviewed by ASP Edet Clement and DSP ThankGod Nnaji, was launched in the event.

Speaking on the book, Honourable Councilor representing ward 10, Egor local government area, Hon. Been Ehigie Idemudia said the book is a product of ingenuity, hard work and research.

“It is a book we must all have and read”, he said.
