ASABA – The sister in-law to Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who was abducted forthnight ago has been released after allegedly paying about N150m ransom.
Elizabeth, the immediate younger sister to Dame Edith Okowa, wife of the governor was allegedly abducted by gang of unknown gunmen at Temple Clinic junction, along Awai road near Government House Asaba, the State Capital.
According to family source, the victim reportedly re gain freedom at about 2.30am on Thursday morning after the governor’s wife agreed to pay N150million ransom from the initial N200m, to secure her freedom.
However, reliable source from government house who confirmed her released said the lady was released unhurt, but denial knowledge of any ransom paid to the kidnappers.
He said he was aware that negotiation was ongoing between the bandit and the family, led by the governor’s wife.
The source also said that governor Okowa and the State Police Commissioner, Adeyinka Adeleke were at cool war over the Police failure to secure Elizabeth’s freedom within a short time as both are the chief security officers in the state.
When contact, Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke denied any knowledge of the released, saying “I’m just hearing it from you, I don’t have that information that she was abducted let alone to have information that she was released. I no hear go, so is not possible for me to hear come”.
