BENIN CITY – The Veltrop Limited, the construction firm handling the reconstruction and upgrading work of the swimming pools of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin has said that the pools can host any Olympic championship.
The Contractor, Kaodi Nduaka, gave the assurance to Nigerians in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during a visit to the ongoing works at the stadium complex on yesterday.
“As you can see it’s an old pool, what we did was to remodel it and upgraded it so that it can meet international standard.”
“All the things that you need for competitions are here, the starting blocks are there, the lanes are there and the timing system which will represent omega for Swiss timing will eventually be fixed
“With all of these you have a standard pool which can entertain any world competition.
“The pool essentially are ready, all we are waiting for is water supply to fill the two of them.
“The training pool is a five lane and this one which is eight lane and for competitions are both ready”. He said.
Nduaka assured that Edo sports Festival is one of the activities that would be used to test run the pools before the 20th National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020.
The 20th NSF, which will hold from March 22 to April 1, will be the third NSF the state will be hosting.
