Warri – It was indeed the gathering of who is who in Nigeria political terrain as the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President , Ahmed Lawan and others attended the thanksgiving service in honour of the Deputy Senate President, Barrister Ovie Omo Agege.

The ceremony which took place at the Mother Of The Redeemer Catholic Church , in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, had the church auditorium filled to capacity.

The church service started at about 10: 45am with the arrival of the Vice President, Prof Osinbajo and the celebrant, Senator Omo-Agege.

Others at the thanksgiving are the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Silva, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senate George Akume and former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State., Rivers State governor Nyesom Wine.

Senators Ibikunle Amosun, James Manager, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh (NDDC, EDP), Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, Olorogun Ovie Omo-Agege and many others.

The traditional institution in Delta was also fully represented with an array of Uhrobo monarchs which included 103-year-old chairman of the Forum of Urhobo Traditional Rulers and Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, HRM Ovie Ogbon, Ogoni 1, Orodje of Okpe, Olu off Warri, Ovie of Uvwie, Ovie of Agbon, Ovie of Agbarha-Otor and others.

While extolling the sterling qualities of the Deputy Senate President and the Senate President, Prof.Osinbajo who also stood in for President , Muhammadu Buhari, said,

”There was very little doubt that these two individuals were the ones that we wanted and everybody worked very hard indeed to make sure that came to be.

“And the reasons are very simple—Lawan has always proved to be very reliable and always a party person and so is Omo-Agege.

“In most of the things people were shy or afraid to do, Omo-Agege stood up and was ready to be counted at the right time.

“I think that for his courage and for his steadfastness and for his reliability, not only was he rewarded by his constituents who he loves very much but also by our great party, and by the 9th Senate by his election to the position of Deputy Senate President,’’ he said.

He said that with the qualities Omo-Agege possessed, he would still achieve more politically in Nigeria.

The vice president prayed God to continue to bless the deputy senate president.

On his part, Lawan said he was in the church to thank God for his blessings on his deputy.

Lawan said that the more God was appreciated for his blessings, the more blessings he would bestow.

Adding that the senate would continue to work hand in hand with the executive in solving the security concerns in the nation.

On his part, Okowa congratulated Omo-Agege who he described as his brother for attaining such a political height.

The celebrant, Omo-Agege said he was immensely grateful to God for what he had achieved as it would not have been possible without God.

He expressed his appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, Osinbajo, APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, APC governors and all party faithful, who were instrumental to his emergence as Deputy Senate President.

Earlier in his homily. Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Mario Ozele , admonished all present to always give thanks to God for what He has done for us.

According to the cleric, the thanksgiving was not just for the Omo Ageges, but for the entire Urhobo nation.

” The political pathway to the top has been rough and rugged, but God had strengthen you to weather the storm.”

He charged the political class on the need to love in spite of their differences.

Making reference Mahatman Ghandi’s statement ”An eye for an eye,a tooth for a toot will lead to a blind and toothless society.

While warning against hatred , Very Rev. Fr. Ozele said hatred kills not only the hated but the hater.
