BENIN CITY – Amid fears that the economic situation of the country may hamper efforts to fight Coronavirus, corporate organizations affluent individuals and elected political office holders have joined the fray, donating money, medicament and food items to help contain the spread of the pandemic in Nigeria,
In the same light, Hon Yekini Idaiye the member representing Akoko-Edo Constituency one in the Edo State House of Assembly who is also the Deputy speaker and uncommon philanthropist and a grass rooted politician has donated 50 bags of rice, 21 bags each of garri and beans respectively to be distributed among the vulnerable people in his constituency.
The honorable member better known as a humanitarian, given his disposition to lending helping hand to the needy even while he was in the Banking sector he supported the less privileged. Expectedly, since he assumed office as the member representing Akoko Edo Constituency one, he has continuously emarked on empowerment programs for his people particularly the less privileged ones. This indeed is a testimony for the love he has for his people and it was in keeping with his avowed spirit of giving that he single-handedly purchased 50 bags of Rices 21 bags of Garri and 21 bags of beans to shared among the seven clans and others communities that make up his Constituency.
As a proof of the lawmaker’s level of acceptance among his people, some notable Traditional Rulers were also present at the presentation of the items, among them were HRH Oba Ojiefoh, the Onilampese of Lampese, HRH Oba John Sule Adezeil, the Onibillo of Ibillo, HRH Oba D S Lawan,i the Olojah of Okah, HRH Oba Deji, the Alayaran of Ayaran, HRH Oba Ojiefo Ado of Ugboshi, HRH Oba Sule Idaiye the Imah of Somorika, and the host royal father Oba Idogun III the Olokpe of Okpe Kingdom, HRH Oba Idogun. Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the recipient thanked the donor and assured him of equitable distribution of the itey to the people also prayed for him to succeed in his life endeavors.
The Deputy Speaker while addressing the Royal fathers and others during the presentation at the palace of his Royal Highness Oba Idogu III JP OON the Olokpe of Okpe Kingdom, started by thanking the people of his Constituency. ” I salute you from the bottom of my heart for the honour you have done me by making this assembly worthwhile particularly at this trying period of the coronavirus, a thing that we never expected. I thank God Almighty for having such warm and understanding people like you, as members of my own Constituency.
” Without your commitment, total support and prayers, I cannot succeed in my duties as your representative, It is gratifying that in the few months I have been your representative in the Edo State House of Assembly, you have given your unalloyed support and love to me. These gestures are indeed heartwarming and I sincerely appreciate you for all the support, I decided to use the traditional rulers to share this food items because they are not politician. I represent everybody in my Constituency irrespective of political parties or religion. I am also using the opportunity tell all of you to obey the Government directives and ensure all the necessary precautionary measures at preventing the spread of the Coronavirus also known as Covid-19 are observed to the latter, which includes hand wishing, permissible social distancing and the use of face mask throughout this period.
