Warri – The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu has said that
the planned security outfit of the State government, code named “Operation Delta Hawk”, is being put in place to address the indigenous security challenges in the state.
Aniagwu who disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the Government House Annex ,Warri on Monday said that , with the rising cases of insecurity across the country, a security outfit that understands the indigenous people, understands the nature and color of specific crimes was germane.
The commissioner who opined that information gathering is not the exclusive preserve of the security agencies, also called on the indigenes to help the security agencies, the Information gathering.
“The information that you also help to give to this security outfit that is coming , would to a very large extent help us in combating crime in the localities.
“Before now, we also do know that there has been lack of intelligence sharing amongst the security agency.
“We believe that since the “Operation Delta Hawk” is going to be made up of personnel from these different security outfits, in addition to the civil populace , particularly the vigilante groups , we are going to be able to largely address this issue of lack of intelligence sharing.
“Because, the man from the Police is going to bring the information he has, the man from the Navy is going to bring the information he has, the men from other security outfits also.
” Once they all come into one umbrella, the tendency that it would boost the intelligence that would enable them crack or come down heavily on criminals is quite high.
“So, we are not going to just set it up, but they will be well equipped.
You know it is not proper to discuss security issues for the purpose of not also giving the enemies information that will equip them before you start the process. Aniagwu ,said.
