The case involving six persons for the murder of Chief Idahosa Omokaro have been thrown out for lack of evidence.
The case which have been on since 2016 was stalled due to the absence of the key witness Osamuyi Imade. Osamuyi Imade disappeared after the parents were killed by unknown gunmen, and a stern warning left for him not to appear in court to give evidence, the Judge threw out the case for lack of merit and discharged the accused persons.
After several attempts by the deceased son, Barr. Nosa Omokaro to trace Osamuyi, the key witness proved abortive, and after several adjournments, The Judge said that the six accused persons cannot be detained anymore based on allegations.
He however advised that, when fresh evidence is discovered, another suit can be filed.
Osamuyi Imade, who we learnt fled the country due the killing of the parents and several attempts on his life, is yet to return.
The question now is, with the release of the six accused persons, is it still possible for Osamuyi to come out from hiding to give evidence? and without his return, the murder of the Chief will remain another unsolved murder case.
It will be recalled that in 2016 six boys storm a birthday party of a prominent Benin Chief and shot him in cold blood and one Osamuyi Imade, the key witness, identified the boy that carried out the shooting and in a bid to silence him, his parents were killed. And Osamuyi went into hidding.
