BENIN CITY- Arising from the recent admonition of the Benin Monarch to the various political parties and their candidates for the September 19 governorship election in Edo State to embrace peace before, during and after the poll, the group, Edo Equity Forum, has applauded Oba Ewuare II for the peace meeting with the candidates of the parties.
Spokesperson for the group, Mr. Benjamin Omoigui, who briefed Journalists yesterday in Benin City said that Oba Ewuare II’s intervention would no doubt be beneficial to the people of the state and the People Democratic Party (PDP).
He said: “We, the Edo Equity Forum hereby applaud the Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, for the recent peace meeting held between the Oba and the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state
“We know that this intervention is for the benefit of Edo people and the PDP, who would gain nothing from the continued violent attacks on their supporters and electorates.
“This is because Edo people have been emphatic in their choice of the PDP and their support has been absolute and unflinching
“Several polls conducted in the past few weeks, including those sponsored by the APC, have proven that the PDP and the governor enjoy 80 percent approval rating.
“It is evident that this is why the APC has resorted to violence and other divisive measures, with the hope of bringing the house down and causing a breakdown of law and order.
“The Oba’s Intervention bolsters this resolve yo return the governor into office
“As we head for the election, the wishes of the people would only be actualised under a peaceful atmosphere, which is why we are grateful to the Oba over this intervention, which will ensure that the election holds in a calm and peaceful atmosphere
“We the Oba’s assurance, Edo people should be rest assured that this election is going to be peaceful, free and fair. They should come out to vote and be certain that their votes will count.
“All fears that may have been nursing before should be discarded as we have received the blessings of the Oba to have a peaceful election.
“We also thank the Oba for condemning the attack on the governor at his palace, calling it out for what it truly is, which is an attempt to smear the royal stool”, he stated
