The federal government has been advised that for it to meet all of its developmental objectives as a nation more attention must be given education by approving the UNESCO 26% budgetary allocation for the development of education .

Deborah Eseni , founder of Gift a child initiative, a non-governmental organization,made the disclosure yesterday at annual celebration of the Universal children day held at Kiddies kollege group of schools.

Speaking during her presentation , Deborah Eseni said that this year’s celebration with the theme “Reimagined world for the children ” became imperative in the event of covid -19 pandemic which had completely changed ways mankind do things globally .

According to her, children need to be assured that a better future which was imagined before the outbreak of the pandemic can be achieved when parents, stakeholders and government play their roles in the development of the children through adequate teaching and learning to acquire the acceptable norms and values of life

She said” Reimagine a better society for the children was aptly chosen as a theme to celebrate all children globally and in Nigeria, the children are not left out.

“This year a lot has happened globally and the children are affected as well however we are giving them the platform for them to be heard in every decision making process.

“To achieve this every child must be given qualitative education that would be of immense value to the society in the future which is why government must give 26% of its budgetary allocation to allocation for sustainable development and of the economy as outlined by UNESCO .”she said.

She however added that this when fully in place would guarantee a bright future for every child in the country noting that every Nigerian child deserves to right to adequately equipped with qualitative education for tomorrow.

The universal children day celebration is observed globally every November 20,and the celebration in Benin city was marked with bible quiz, poem recitation and tips on healthy living

Gift a child initiative, non-governmental organization which was founded in April 19,2020 has since been involved in the welfare, development and support of children, orphanage homes, empowerment programmes,campaign against rape and distribution of palliatives to less privileged in the society.
