Olagunju Akolade Abiodun and 12 others to face criminal suit over #EndSARS protests

Osun state police command has launched manhunt for Olagunju Akolade Abiodun and other masterminds of #Endsars protests in Osogbo, the state capital and other parts of Osun state

Since 8th October 2020, Nigerian youths have been protesting against police brutality across the country, in particular by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian police. The protests, emboldened by the use of social media, came to embrace wider grievances of bad governance and a lack of accountability in the country.

Security forces have used tear gas, water cannons and live ammunition against #EndSARS protesters, while armed thugs have reportedly attacked protesters and disrupted protests. Violence and clashes, including attacks on media outlets, destruction of police stations and buildings, were also reported.

The Nigeria police filed a criminal complaint against Olagunju Akolade Abiodun and other defendants before a Chief Magistrate’s court in Osogbo, for their active roles in the #EndSARS protest which later became violent last month.
