BENIN CITY – The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has hailed the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for his administration’s robust and systematic response to the disease outbreak in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic.

Lead, Presidential Task Force COVID-19 Profile, Prof. Ehimario Igumbor, gave the commendation while addressing journalists in Benin City.

Igumbor said the team was on a five-day official visit to Edo, to provide supportive supervision to the state’s response to COVID-19.

According to him, “We are here in Edo, undertaking supportive supervision about the state’s response to COVID-19 in general but specifically around how we are improving our testing rate across the state.

“We have the opportunity to meet with Governor Godwin Obaseki and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

“We are very grateful to see the command that the governor has around the response and all that he is doing to support the activities of the public health response.”

He continued: “We want to keep the word out there around testing for COVID-19; we have seen a surge in cases in recent times and are encouraging the population to come out and get tested.

“We are visiting the various laboratory facilities; we like the decentralised testing strategy that the state has adopted.

“We just want to give reinforcement to that and communicate this even onward to our colleagues in federal and other states to take lead from such good feats that we are seeing in Edo.

“We hope that in the next while, we would get more people tested and we can use that as a premise to inform the response and control the pandemic, which remains very real in our communities.”
