BENIN CITY — The Edo State Police Command has allegedly declared one Mr. Nosakhare Osaheni wanted after he was linked to a same-sex relationship involving another man, identified simply as Edwin Osagie, who has reportedly been arrested.
The incident, which has thrown a Benin City neighbourhood into confusion, began on February 2nd 2021 at about 1pm when Edwin’s girlfriend allegedly walked in on the two men during an intimate encounter at his residence.
The sacrilege was said to have triggered chaos as neighbours stormed the scene, beating and hurling insults at the 2 bisexual lovers before Osaheni reportedly fled.
Sources in the community reportedly claimed that the police later visited Osaheni’s residence in the company of Edwin, sparking panic among family members and neighbours.
“People said the police came with Edwin Osagie and were asking for him. Before anyone knew what was happening, he had packed a few things and disappeared,” a resident who witnessed the commotion said.
Osaheni, a plumber and father of two, was said to have contacted close family members, informing them that he had left Benin City out of fear of being arrested and was going into hiding from the law enforcement agents.
But the situation however escalated after a wanted notice bearing his name and photograph surfaced in a local publication, compelling him to go into hiding.
Meanwhile, family sources admitted that although they were “deeply disappointed” by the scandal, they did not want him “dragged to prison or humiliated further.”
Efforts by our correspondent to reach the Edo State Police Command for an official comments on the case were unsuccessful as calls and messages to the Public Relations Officer had not been returned at press time as the whereabouts of Nosakhare Osaheni remained unknown to anyone in the community.
Similarly, a statement issued by the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police and made available to journalists in Benin City urged any member of the general public with any useful information about the whereabouts of Nosakhare Osaheni to report same at the office of DSP. Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police or any nearby police for a handsome reward.
