The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured the implementation of policies that will empower youths and women as well as vulnerable persons to deploy digital platforms to make decent living and contribute to the state’s economic growth and development.

Obaseki gave the assurance in commemoration of the World Day for Social Justice marked yearly by the United Nations and other sister organisations.

He noted, “My administration will continue to implement policies that would provide an equal playing field for everyone to find expression and achieve their full potential. This much has been reflected in the appointments in my first term, the focus on job creation and skills development for youths and the mainstreaming of women in politics.”

Obaseki continued: “In furtherance of the focus on youths in Edo State, we are partnering with Decagon, an elite software engineering and leadership training institute, to develop the Edo Tech Park, which will assist the state government build capacity of our youths to contribute to the state’s economy.

“This partnership was designed to discourage our youths from illegal migration as the capacity building will provide the youth with an opportunity to acquire world-class skills in the state and make decent living by working remotely for clients anywhere across the globe.

“We continue to make the case for the education of the girl-child and have been pursuing this mandate vigorously. We are reviewing our laws and social practices that manifestly or latently relegate the interest of women in our contemporary society.”

The governor added: “At the Edo Innovation Hub, we have continued to train our youths and women as well as vulnerable persons in the state to gain skills through which they have either acquired direct or indirect jobs.”

According to the United Nations, “Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. The pursuit of social justice for all is at the core of our global mission to promote development and human dignity.”
