The Edo State Government has assured tertiary institutions in the state of sustained support to improve the standard of education and ensure the overall development of the state.

The Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq. gave the assurance when he received members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) from the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

Okungbowa said the government has made education a priority and would continue to support tertiary institutions in the state to make them more viable to run optimally.

The Head of Service said that the importance of the education sector to societal development could not be over-emphasized, reassuring that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration was all out to make sure that the sector gets the needed support.

Urging the Union to support the government in its efforts at transforming the sector, Okungbowa said the government is stepping up efforts in ensuring that the polytechnic gets accreditation for more courses.

Earlier, Engr. Ehiabi Paul Aziegbehim, thanked the governor for his unflinching support for the institution, noting that the Union will continue to collaborate with the state government to ensure an improved standard of education in the state.

Obaseki had in May, 2019 signed a bill into law changing the School from Edo State Institute of Technology and Management to Edo State Polytechnic, as part of reforms to reposition the school for greater impact.
