BENIN CITY – Men of the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command have nabbed three suspected cultists, who have been declared wanted since October 2014, in a raid on their hideout in Upper Sokponba Road, in Benin City,after a tip off from residents of the area.
Briefing newsmen yesterday at the State Police headquarters in Benin, the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Chibuzor, said the incident occurred on May 18,2021, after a tip off from residents in the area. They complained of the disturbing presence and activities of hoodlums in the Upper Sokponba area, aftermath of the EndSARS riot across the state and country recently.
According to SP Chibuzor,”you are all aware of what the police suffered in the last EndSARS protests across the country and we have vowed to clean the streets of all criminals,as soon as possible”.
The police spokesperson, while naming the arrested suspects as:Chinedu Eke,Jeremiah Obas and Sola Aliu, said the suspects have earlier been on the wanted list of the police, since October 23rd, 2014, in several cult related incidents that resulted in the gruesome murder of five persons, injuring two others and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira.
According to him “these suspects are some of the undesirable elements that have been on our radar for sometime now and I would like to appeal to the general public to always give the police, useful information, on the hideouts of criminals.
Meanwhile, we are still in the lookout for the other members of the gang who are still at large, namely:Martins Boyo,Smart Apam and Innocent Abwulimen Ovienloba. He assured the public that the police will not relent in it’s effort to bring perpetrators of these heinous crimes to book”.
According to the police spokeperson,the arrested suspects will soon appear in court, after completion of it’s investigations.
