The Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has opened a new Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, in a renewed bid to deepen exchange between the school and the larger society.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists, said the centre is located in Benin City and is aimed at bringing the expertise of the school and its offerings for use by the larger society.

According to him, “We have developed a number of solutions and are innovating new ways of solving society’s problems, especially the immediate community and we want to bring these ideas and tools closer to the people. This is why the centre is located in Benin City.”

He noted that the centre would be engaged in capacity building and technology transfer programmes with experts pooled from highly experienced researchers and technologists from the polytechnic to solve problems in areas such as communication and media, pharmaceutical technology, surveying and geoinformatics, public administration and accounting, renewable energy, urban planning and environmental sustainability, among others.

“We have well-trained professionals who are willing to train people on some of these thematic areas and are hopeful that the synergy will provide solutions to issues facing the communities that we intend to service,” he added.
