BENIN CITY: The Benin Monarch His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II has joined calls for the financial autonomy for the judicial arm of government.

The Oba made the call when the out -going Edo State Chief Judge, Hon Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin paid a courtesy visit to the palace recently.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II noted that for effective law and order to be ensured, equity, justice,and fair play must be enshrined ,pointing out that it is absured for one arm of government to be under another as this practice threatens to pervert justice.

The Monarch then join the judicial workers union and other well meaning Nigerians to call on the Federal and State Government to grant full autonomy of the judiciary in accordance with the constitution of the country as this will enable them to discharge their responsibility effectively.

He then assured the Hon Justice Esther Edigin that the Palace will continue to support and pray for her and family and urge her to support the in -coming Chief Judge to also succeed.

Earlier Hon Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin informed the Oba that she will be disengaging from Edo State Judicial Service on the 17th of May 2021 when she would have attained the mandatory retirement age of 65 years for Judges.

Hon justice Esther A Edigin was full of appreciation to the Oba for the prayers and support on assumption of office which she attributed to be behind her huge success in office and appealed to His Royal Majesty for more prayers as she proceed on retirement from public service.

She also appealed that the prayers and support also should be accorded the in-coming Chief Judge for success

The retiring Chief Judge was accompanied to the palace by principals of Edo State Judiciary and other judicial officers.
