Warri – The Principal Chief Executive of Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Dr. Henry A. Adimula has charged students of the institute on the need to acquire a trade in addition to their academic certificate so as to boost their entrepreneurial ability in order to cope with the present challenges of the country.

Dr. Henry Adimula stated this during the Institute’s annual matriculation ceremony held at PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.

He said that , the institute has an entrepreneurial center for students that will equip them with skills, trade to be self reliance so as to set up businesses for themselves and become employers of labour in the nearest future.

“Entrepreneurship Development is another area that we are building the capacity of our students.

“We are not only equipping our students with skills, but also with entrepreneurial spirit and by the time they acquire such skills, they become men and women who don’t have to wait for government to give them jobs because they are ready to start a business and to also become employers of labour.

“Apart from acquiring your academic certificates, you are expected to be trained in at least ‘a Trade’ to get you equipped for the challenges of the present Nigeria” he said.

According to the principal, out of the 2,831 candidates that applied for the school through the Joint Admission Matriculation Board(JAMB), only 1,901 candidates met the requirements of both the Board and PTI Post-UTME making them bonafide students.

While admonishing students to eschew vices inimical to their academic excellence and well being, the principal admonished the matriculants to focus on the primary aim of why they are in school and avoid social vices such as examination malpractice, misconduct, stealing, cultism, drug peddling, certificate forgery amongst others, he said,

“The focus of your studentship should be academic excellence, innovation, resourcefulness and character development.

“You are to prepare yourself to be part of the leadership of Nigeria not just the future because the future starts now.

“It is instructive that you study all the contents of the Handbook and acquaint yourselves with the institute’s rules and regulations as offenses such as stealing, certificate forgery, cultism, examination misconduct e.t.c will attract serious santions”.

Some of the visibly excited matriculants, Miss Aishat Oluwatosin and Usuangbon Irehze they were happy becoming bonafide students of the Petroleum Training Institute.

“My name is Aishat Oluwatosin, I’m matriculating today in the Petroleum Training Institute. I’m in Petroleum marketing department. I wish to be a petroleum marketer in the oil and gas sector after the end of my programme.

“I promised myself that I will concentrate on the primary reason why I’m here which is to study and come out in flying colours” she enthused.

“My name is Usuangbon Irehze. I’m very happy and I want to thank God for making this day possible I’m studying Science and Laboratory Technology which is SLT.

I feel deeply honoured to be accepted.

“I promise to give my best to the Petroleum Training Institute and come out with excellence” he said
