The police said specifically that Mazi Nwankwo Emeka is wanted for issuing provocative and false statements to the media, aimed at instigating the people against the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The police statement further explained that the two other wanted persons, Nathaniel Izu and Justice Iwendu have been identified as IPOB cell leaders in the Onitsha metropolis.

It said the three men together with dozen others held an illegal assembly on October 10,2021 with the intent to perpetuate violence in Anambra state and other parts of the south east of the country.

The statement urged members of the public with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the pro- Biafra agitators to report to the nearest police station or command headquarters, Akwa.

Our correspondent gathered that members of the pro- Biafra group were holding a meeting at a private residence in the Upper Iweka area when a detachment of the Joint Task Force( JTF) acting on a tip- off, stormed the venue.

‘There was pandemonium, shooting and clashes . One person was shot dead while several others sustained injuries during the raid. Some members of the group were also arrested “, a resident in the area told our reporter.

There have frequent violent clashes between security forces and IPOB activists who are agitating for the establishment of the sovereign state of Biafra. These clahes have led to the death of hundreds of Biafra protagonists and the arrest of thousands, many who are still languishing either in prison custody or military detention camps.

Amnesty International and civil rights groups have accused the Federal Government and the military of using excessive force in dealing with IPOB members.

The international rights group estimates that at least, over 1000 pro- Biafra agitators have either been killed or no maimed between August ,2015 and May,2021 by security forces during raids and clashes with the group.

The leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is currently in prison custody as faces trial for treason.
