NDIAWA (IMO) – A 53-year old man has absconded after he was caught engaging in same-sex relationship in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State.
Same-sex relationship, an offense which attracts between 10 and 14 years jail term is considered a taboo in the entire South-Eastern part of Nigeria, including Onitsha.
The man, Emmanuel Nwankwo, lives in his hometown, (Arodizougo) Ndiawa village in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.
He was said to have been divorced by his wife due to his involvement in same-sex relationship.
Prior to absconding, he was said to have suffered a lot of humiliation and isolation among his peer group.
It was reliably gathered that his involvement in same-sex relationship started when he was a teen living with his uncle somewhere outside Onitsha.
The lid was blown open when a strange illness that befell him was linked to a taboo he committed which was later found out to be same-sex relationship before it became a matter for public knowledge.
As at press time the whereabout of Emmanuel and his uncle who was simply identified as Anthony Udechukwu was unknown as The Nigerian OBSERVER gathered that the community may require their blood to appease the gods of the land.
On the use of their blood to appease the gods, an elder in the community who would not want his name in print said that only the community High Priest could give details.
