BENIN CITY- Residents of Palace road and environs in Upper Mission Extension in Benin City have appealed to Edo State Government to come to their aid over the deplorable condition of the road as a result of shoddy construction work done on the road by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)

The residents of the area made the appealed when they held peaceful protest to let the Government know about their plight .

speaking on behalf of the landlords and land ladies in area, Robert Owen Okhiendovbere who is also the odionwere of Uteh palace road appealed to the government to call on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to as a matter of urgent solution to come back to site and complete the road project.

He noted that the people in the street (Ute- palace road) and environs cannot access their houses anytime it rains as a result of the heavy flooding and big pot holes created as a result of the heavy duty vehicles that ply the road.

Pa Robert Owen further added that the road was constructed half way by NDDC and with substandard materials and it was also not done to specification from those concerned, then they have been suffering since 2014 when they abandoned the road project half way.

Also speaking Mrs Josephine Osayande a resident in the area and Mr Friday David and Osamudiamen Idehen who are Keke riders that ply the Ute- palace road said the road leads to about 12 villages down to the bypass adding that the deplorable condition of the road is really affecting their only means of livelihood that there is no day they do not visit the mechanic workshop to fix their Keke (tricycle).

They added that they have exhausted all the means to fix the road hence the protest to appeal to Edo State Government to come to their aid by calling on NDDC to come and complete the road project that was done half way.

However a visit to Niger Delta Development Commission office in Benin City for their response on the allegation of abandonment of the road project by the commission was not successful as the management of NDDC on ground claimed he has just beenposted to Benin City office but that the reporters should call in a weeks time
