Abudu – The last few days recorded huge turnout of staff at Orhionmwon local government council secretariat following management notice to henceforth sanction any worker who failed to report to duty.
The notice issued on Friday 29th October 2021 by the council chapter of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), warned the absentees to “turn a new leaf” or be purnished.
“Exco unanimously agreed for all HOD to give query to any staff found wanting as well as the administration and general service have put on a new Google incase, if any person found wanting is not in his/her HOD query list because his/her TITLE: Mr. HOD favourite. You will be fish-out. That, is to tell you the height the management have taken this matter.
“The Exco also agreed to use the law available before them in the ways it is written in civil service rules either by seizure of full salary or payment on the numbers of days a worker come to work starting from 1st November 2021”, excerpt of the notice signed by the Union’s chairman, Osagie Kingsley and Secretary, Omoruyi Kelvin read.
According to the information posted on the council’s notice board, the management will reward workers who diligently discharge their duties.
Our correspondent however observed that while the notice forced most staff to report to their various duty posts, some are yet to come to terms with the new directive.
Findings revealed that council secretariats in semi urban or rural areas in Nigeria record low turnout of workers due to lack of amenities to encourage them to reside in these areas, hence the staff live several kilometres away from their place of work.
The situation contributed to many feeling reluctant to come to work and maybe stay until closing hours even when they report to duty despite receiving complete wages.
