BENIN CITY – Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general election in the country, tension, threats and violent attacks have continued to envelop Benin City, Edo State as two youths have been reportedly killed around Forestry area of the City following intense political clash and disagreements.
According to confirmed source, violent clashes and sporadic shooting erupted around New Benin on May 17, 2021 that left some APC youths badly injured.
It was revealed that to take their pound of flesh, one Mr. George Osarenren, Efosa Efehi and Osakue Osagiator Joseph were attacked and pursued by four armed men who alighted from a Black Toyota Jeep, and rained haze of bullets on them and confirmed that they were dead before they drove off the scene.
The source who claimed to remain anonymous, explained that the crisis between the two dominant political parties in the State is obviously responsible for the wanton and unnecessary killings of the two political active youths in the area. He said that the two victims who were killed around Forestry in Benin City were active members of PDP.
“They were killed by about four gunmen suspected to be cultists, who came in a black Toyota jeep, targeted and pursued PDP youths and gun down George Osareren and Efosa Efehi, while they narrowly missed Osakue Osagiator Joseph. This left others to run for their dear lives to avoid being victims of the political crisis” the source said.
“There is no love lost between the youths of APC and that of PDP in the locality.
“There had been clashes between members of the two political parties in New Benin area of the State and in that fracas; three APC youths were badly injured.
“I believe this attack and killings is a reprisal attack by some APC youths to eliminate George Osarenre, Efosa Efehi and one Osakue Osagiator Joseph,” the source added.
According to another statement signed by one Osakue Daniel, it explained that “unfortunately, George and Efosa were caught in the political battle while Osakue Osagiator Joseph was fortunate to have escape death by the whiskers.
Daniel Osakue who is a member of the Osakue family emphasised that since the killings of George and Efosa, the whereabouts of Osakue Osagiator Joseph is unknown as himself and other PDP Youths who are on the hit list of the gunmen are on the run following the vow made by the political cultists to kill any of them whenever they see them.
