BENIN CITY-Assailants identified as members of Ogboni confraternity have invaded the residence of a widow injuring her daughter in Benin City.
It was gathered that the victim identified as Grace Omogiate has been hospitalised in an undisclosed hospital.
The bloody invasion was said to have occurred few years after the said group allegedly launched a manhunt for the eldest son of the family, one Osazee Omogiate now at large.
Sources further stated that the assailants invaded the residence about 7:15pm on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
When our reporter visited the scene, 12 Ibizugbe Street, Ikpoba hill, Benin City, the building was deserted.
The bungalow said to have been built by the widow’s husband was vandalized by the attackers.
A resident of the street elder Okoro Uyi described the attack as well coordinated.
“I was in my balcony when I heard Mrs Omogiate Rose screamed for help.
“I could not leave my sitting position because it was dark. In fact, the attack lasted few minutes”. Pa Okoro stated.
Contacted on the telephone, the widow Mrs. Omogiate Rose accused members of Ogboni confraternity which she said her late husband was an active member, for the attack.
“In 2005 when I lost my husband, I reported to the police that some Ogboni members are threatening to kill my eldest son Osazee for refusal to be initiated into their fold.
“My son Osazee was advised to run for his life because he has been marked to occupy his father’s stool, the police said they would investigate and act accordingly but nothing has been done to protect us”. The widow sobbed on the telephone.
Confirming the incidence, the spokesman, Edo State police command SP Kontongs Bello said the command has received report of the attack on the residence of one Mrs Omogiate Rose.
SP Kontongs added that operatives of the command had commenced investigation into the incidence as her wounded daughter was responding to medical attention at a hospital.
The police spokesman explained that no arrest has been made so far.
