BENIN CITY- Armed men suspected to be cultists have killed a man during a manhunt for his son in Benin City.
The victim identified as Mr Friday Okhiaro was shot to death in his private residence at 14, Okhiaro Street, Off Siluko road, Benin City about 1:30 am, Wednesday, February 17, 2022.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the building in search of the deceased son, one Osahon Friday Okhiaro.
When their search revealed that the boy’s absence in the building at the time, one of the invaders opened fire at his father killing him instantly.
Sources further disclosed that the rampaging gunmen thereafter chatted “we will get Osahon down, Osahon must die, Osahon must go down like his father”, as they left the area, unchallenged.
A resident of Okhiaro Street who pleaded anonymity said the attack was carried out under the cover of darkness as it lasted few minutes.
“The killing of Pa Friday Okhiaro is shocking, I am pained, my fear now is that the gunmen vowed not to rest until they kill his son Osahon whose whereabouts I do not know as I speak”, the witness narrated.
Attempts to obtain comments from Osahon Friday Okhiaro failed as his whereabouts is said to remained unknown at press time.
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command SP Kontongs Bello said the police were contacted after the attack.
SP Kontongs added that the corpse of victim identified as Mr Friday Okhiaro had been evacuated to a morgue in Benin City.
He said investigation into the unfortunate incident had commenced.
