BENIN CITY – The conference of Non-Governmental Organisations (CONGOS), Edo State has commenced a capacity building programme aimed at equipping its members for uptimal service delivery.
The nine months training programme is funded by the European Union (EU) in collaboration with the British Council.
President of CONGOS, Mrs Abiola Daisy Ogaga at the programme inception meeting in Benin City said that the training is aimed at enhancing Civil Society Groups with capacity for enhanced performance.
The theme of the programme is “Institutional Strengthening of Member Organisations to Improve Visibility, Accountability and Civil Engagement.”
Mrs Ogaga identified areas of focus to include organisational performance in civil engagement, improved access to funding, enhanced collaboration, as well as peers learning and partnership.
According to her, the present executive of CONGOS is committed to membership drive which would culminate in increased number of beneficiaries of the capacity building programme of the organisation.
It is aimed at filling organisational gaps in the operations of benefiting NGOs, according to the Programme Officer of CONGOS, Mr Isaac Noble Israel in a chat with newsmen
He said that focus of the training would be mainly on financial management and procedure, communication, strategic planning and also aimed at making activities of benefiting NGOs more visible to the larger society.
The British Council Focal Person in Edo State, Mr Newton Osmaye, while lauding CONGOS and its activities in the state, expressed readiness to sustain the council’s efforts towards improving on the society.
