An Esan social cultural group — Esankugbe, with membership across the entire Edo Centre, has called on Ehia Olu Akhabue to join the Senate race for Edo Central Senatorial District.

A statement issued in Benin City and endorsed by the group’s Chairman and Secretary, John Itua and Moses Inegbenose respectively, and made available to newsmen, described
Akhabue as a “ philanthropist , whose scholarship scheme has helped and continues to help a good number of indigent children to acquire education “

“Being a man for whom service to the people is a creed; a man who even as a private citizen continues to be engaged in warm- hearted humanitarian gestures, we feel encouraged to say that he is a man of the moment to represent Edo Central in the Senate “ the statement added.

According to the statement “ We only pray that Mr.
Akhabue will be persuaded to heed our call because we are convinced that he has both the capacity and fidelity of intentions to attract development to Edo State, and Edo Central in particular “

The Group says it was yet to formally reach out to Akhabue , but promised to work for him if he agrees to run.” We are yet to formally engage Akhabue on our request, but surely not far from now , we shall meet him and let him know why he is the one Edo Central needs now to go to the Senate in 2023”

Meantime, the Group has urged those scheming for 3rd term in Edo Central to bury their ambition as it would be hypocritical for them to embark on a project they once fought against.

“ We are aware that someone like Senator Ordia once fought to frustrate Senator Ugbesia’s third term gambit. The most honorable thing for him to do now is to back down and allow a fresh blood. We know he has done his best these past 8 years and we appreciate him” the statement concluded.
