The state of man inhumanity to man in Nigeria today has reached a worrisome dimension as hardly a day passes without hearing the menace of one arrest or brutalities in one form or another in Nigeria society. The situation is becoming too rampant that it has become a practice in Nigeria today.
Statistics survey show that there is inhumanity to man almost allover the country, even in government circles, but there is a fundamental human rights enshrined in the 1999 Constitution which includes the right to life, association/ religion
Few months to the general election that will end the eight years rule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government and usher in senators/rep’s members into the hallowed chamber for the tenth Assembly in the country, one can commonly see the situation of indiscriminate arrests that are taking place in the country.
It was gathered last weekend in Asaba, Delta state from a source who spoke to our crime desks on condition of annonymous that some group of persons suspected to be labour party members were planning a peaceful protests. They were rounded up along oduah street, akwuofor koka Asaba. The arrested were treated like common criminals.
When our crime desk visited the state command of the Nigerian police force, Asaba a superintendent of police who spoke to our crime desk on the condition of anonymity stated that some group of persons who were trying to cause disaffection in the state were arrested and taken into their custody and he gave the names of those arrested as Victor Cypren Nwaezeapu, Emeka Okafor, Abubakar Kazim, Kelech Okoro, Favour Nkiru Okorie, Nwaokocha Chinedu and Isiomah Asumah. The source said all the suspects will soon be charged to court for planning illegal protest with dangerous weapons against the Nigeria state.
It could be recalled that similar arrest took place in Benin city, the Edo state capital and before going to Press the person’s have not been charged to court.
