Tears and sorrows have enveloped the family of one Aguda Ajayi Timothy, a police officer serving in Ikeduru, Imo State following the gruesome murder of his father, Pa. Aguda Ajayi Benjamin, on March 10, 2022 by suspected members of the notorious Eastern Security Network, the militia wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
This is even as the outlawed group have reportedly vowed to clampdown on the police officer and his family members wherever they are sighted.
The gruesome killing of Pa. Aguda Ajayi Benjamin, who was said to have gone to Ikeduru to visit his son Timothy and his family members according to some residents of two is not unconnected with the killings and arrest of some IPOB members by a Joint Military Taskforce allegedly led by Timothy.
Recall that some suspected IPOB members numbering about 200 unlawfully assembled themselves at a Secondary School in Ikeduru as early as 8:00 am with clandestine motives to cause mayhem in the town.
However, it was learnt that following a tip-off, combined team of the Army and Police led by one Aguda Ajayi Timothy, a police Sergeant swooped on the suspected IPOB members who were allegedly singing different war-like songs, brandishing the outlawed biafran currency and tearing the Nigeria’s flag.
Seven members of the IPOB were reportedly killed during gun battle with the security operatives while 24 others were arrested.
Speaking with our Crime Correspendent in Imo State, an eyewitness who never wanted her name mentioned, said the suspected IPOB members, numbering about four drove into the Timothy’s residence in Ikeduru, and started shooting sporadically into the air with the intent to scare people away.
The source added that she over heard the gunmen demanding the whereabouts of Timothy from his father who was alone in the house as Timothy, his wife and children have all gone to work and school.
She said: “The people (IPOB) were shouting and telling the old man (Timothy’s father) your son thinks he can killed, arrest our members and go free?
“They promised to go after Timothy and members of his father in a way to avenge the death of their members and not quite long, the IPOB members opened fire on Timothy’s father.
“They later left behind a threat note for Timothy that they will continue to search for him and members of his family to kill, hence, they will not rest”, the narrated.
When our Crime Correspondent visited the scene of crime, friends, residents and sympathisers were seen in uncontrollable tears and wailing over the killing of Timothy’s father.
Some others were busy discussing the fate of the police officer and his family, stressing that the IPOB members would stop at nothing to eliminate Timothy and his family members.
The police authorities in the state who confirmed the report said that they are on the lookout for the suspects, who they promised to bring to book upon arrest.
Efforts to get comment from Timothy failed as calls put across to his cell phone and SMS sent were not answered non responded to as at the time of this report.
