The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta has directed Edo and Delta State Commissioners of Police to beef up security before, during and after this year’s Eid-el-fitr in their respective states.

AIG Jimeta further enjoined the CPs to strengthen security on all entry and exit points, major highways, linking roads, government installations/properties, recreation and worship centres as well as other strategic locations within their state commands.

This was contained in a release e-signed by the Public Relations Officer, Zone 5 headquarters, DSP Tijani Momoh, and made available to journalists via Police official WhatsApp platform.

“Following the Eid-el-fitr celebration to mark the end of the Ramadan fast by Muslim Faithful, the AIG Zone 5 Benin has directed the Commissioner of Police, Delta and Edo State Police Commands to ensure visibility patrol, crowd control and implementation of robust anti-crime prevention and control strategies in their respective commands to ensure adequate security of lives and properties.

“They are also to beef up security in the entire linking roads, entry and exit points, major highways, city centres, worship centres, recreational centres, Government installations/properties and other strategic locations in their areas”. The release stated.

AIG Jimeta also urged the state police commands to control the volume of traffic that may be occasioned by the celebration.

He charged operatives on stop-and-search as well as other crime prevention duties to be civil, courteous and professional to avoid acts that will bring the Force to disrepute.

The Police Chief appealed to members of the public particularly travellers and other road users to cooperate with the police during and after the festive period.

AIG Jimeta called on the public to be security conscious, vigilant and swiftly report to the nearest police station any suspicious incident or persons in their neighbourhood.

“Finally, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police wish all Muslim faithful and other residents in the Zone a happy, peaceful and crime-free Eid-el-fitr celebration”. The statement concluded.
