Warri – His Lordship Abang, Okon Effreti, The Honourable Presiding Judge of the Warri Division of the Federal High Court, has been commended for his dedication to duty in ensuring speedy dispensation of justice since assuming office.

The commendation came from an advocacy group under the aegis of the Warri Advocacy Network(WAN), Warri ,Delta State.

This was contained in a letter which was signed by Otuedon, Ajueyitse Martins ,PhD, Project Director , WAN ,and Dennis Mene, Secretary,WAN. and addressed to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, with a copy to Chief Justice of Nigeria and The chairman of the National Judicial Council.

The group in the which was letter made available to the press, commended the legal luminary for his dedication to duty and hard work, adding that, in spite of the enormous challenges, His Lordship,has risen up to the challenge of tackling the hitherto ‘snail speed’ of cases in the “litigation thick city”.

“As monitors and advocates for the socioeconomic welfare of the people with special focus on the state of our courts in the NigerDelta, we write to bring to the attention of your Excellency(Gov. Okowa) , the exceptional dedication to duty and sacrifice by the underscored judge of the Federal High Court, Warri, who relative to the very poor infrastructural state of the court and the humongous number of cases, earns our commendation for 2021/2022 recognition year”.

“It is not in doubt that Warri is the only city in Nigeria with a Federal High Court outside any state capital and yet the only one with a single judge assigned to tackle the very “litigation thick city”.

“We watched keenly for some time as an advocacy group and can confirm that his Lordship Abang, Okon Effreti works sacrificially most times, having late sittings with candle lights due to the poor power supply situation of the area.” The letter stated.

The Warri Advocacy Network (WAN) further stated that, they had also written to their parent body for a nomination of his Lordship for a special international award for the worthy sacrifice of a fellow Nigerian.

In its further quest for an improved administration of justice in the court, the group further among other things, requested for , supportive power supply for the court; provision of designated parking lot for lawyers and litigants; a state award or formal commendation for His Lordship Abang, Okon Effreti with a view to encouraging good conduct of this nature as well as an unannounced visit by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to the court for an on the spot assessment and verification.
