Benin City – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has eulogized Lady Cherry Igbinedion on her 70th birthday celebration, commending her contributions to strengthening the state’s education system.
Obaseki, at an event to mark Lady Cherry Igbinedion’s birthday, said the state will forever be grateful to the celebrant for championing causes for the advancement of education in Edo.
The governor was accompanied to the birthday celebration by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu and the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, among other top government functionaries.
Obaseki said, “Today, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion is known as one of Nigeria’s foremost educationists, made possible by Lady Cherry Igbinedion. She came and brought in not only love but an enduring legacy that the Igbinedion Dynasty will forever be known for.
“We thank you, Lady Cherry Igbinedion, because you championed the enduring values of education in this home and Edo State and we would forever be grateful to you and our father, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.
“Before Lady Cherry came, Gabriel Igbinedion was a great industrialist, an amazing businessman, and had invested in every sphere of life. But the arrival of Lady Cherry turned things around and she put in place those investments that have lasted in Igbinedion’s home.”
He further stated, “The comedian made a joke and asked for a birthday present for you by ensuring that I connect Ossiomo’s 24-hour power supply to this household. As if I knew, two nights ago, I approved a file approving the connection to this house. Your birthday wish has already been fulfilled.
“We are here to pay tribute to an Amazon of a woman, Lady Cherry Igbinedion at 70 years. I am one of those who are lucky to have known this great woman over the years.”
“Today is a special and rare occasion because we have the opportunity to celebrate a person that celebrates others. Lady Cherry has been the hand and the engine responsible for all the celebration in Igbinedion’s household,” the governor added.
A former governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion thanked God for the good health and wonderful life of Lady Cherry Igbinedion, adding, “Today is a very special day and I thank God for Lady Cherry who has contributed greatly to the success of the Igbinedion household.”
