BENIN CITY — Benin City was plunged into chaos on March 22, 2022, as a fire outbreak engulfed the premises of OS Hotel and Suites located on Akhigbe Igien Street, off Sapele Road. The incident was accompanied by a shocking act of violence, leaving the hotel staff in disarray.
According to sources, a group of unidentified individuals forcefully entered the hotel premises, launching a brutal assault on the hotel supervisor and another staff member. The assailants reportedly sought information about the hotel’s boss, who was conspicuously absent during the attack.
This disturbing incident follows a previous bout of violence at OS Hotel in late 2021 when members of the Labour party utilized the venue for a meeting. During the gathering, a gang of thugs stormed the premises, wreaking havoc by destroying furniture, assaulting attendees, and causing general mayhem.
It remains uncertain whether the recent attack is linked to the events of late 2021. The motives behind both incidents are yet to be established, and investigators are working to unravel the connections, if any.
As of now, no information has surfaced regarding any arrests made in connection with the assault and arson. The entire staff of the hotel has reportedly fled, leaving the establishment in a state of abandonment. Furthermore, the director of OS Hotel, whose whereabouts are unknown, adds another layer of mystery to the unfolding situation.
Contacted, the Public Relation Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirm the incidence and said that the police have launched an investigation into the fire outbreak and the assault.
