Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged Nigerians to be united and peace-loving, affirming that democracy remains the best form of government for the good of the people.

The Deputy Governor gave the charge in his message to Nigerians, in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day Celebration.

According to the Deputy Governor, “for Nigerians to actualize their collective aspirations, everyone irrespective of ethnic or religious background, must embrace peace, love one another and uphold the dreams of our founding fathers”.

Shaibu noted that the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Elections, paved the way for the entrenchment of the democracy we are enjoying today.

In his words: ” Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, are celebrating Democracy Day today due to the struggle and sacrifices of selfless, patriotic citizens who fought to usher in democratic governance”.

The Deputy Governor stated that, “we must guide our democracy jealously for our people to continue to enjoy the dividends of having a government of the people, by the people and for the people”.

He added: “as we approach the upcoming 2023 general elections, we must realize that we owe our country, Nigeria the patriotic duty to enthrone good governance at all levels of government. The only way we can achieve this as a people, is for us to get our PVC and vote responsible and God- fearing leaders into the various elective positions”.

He therefore appealed to all Nigerians to be at alert and be their brothers’ keepers arising from security challenge confronting the country.

According to him: “Nigeria is the only country we can call our own. Let us shine our eyes and report the evil people threatening the peace and unity of Nigeria to the relevant security agencies, so that development can thrive for the good of all”.

The Deputy Governor wished all Nigerians well, affirming that: “the labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain”.
