BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has commenced the Operation Plan Edo exercise in Ohoghobi Community, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state, as part of its ongoing efforts to generate a database to ensure development adheres to the state’s urban and regional development plans.
Commissioner for Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, Isoken Omo, while flagging off the exercise, said that the initiative would provide data to ensure equitable distribution of government projects across the state.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Head, Development Control and Enforcement in the Ministry of Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, Mr. Henry Enabulele, said: “Our officials will be collecting data and information on all the facilities around this community. This is to help the Edo State Government in planning for the community’s needs.
“We are collecting information on the level of government presence in the area. This includes the number of schools, roads, access to potable water, electricity, and medical services, among others.
“The data collected will be collated for the planning of Edo. This exercise is being undertaken in collaboration with the Ministries of Water Resources; Energy and Electricity; Art and Culture; Environment; Roads and Bridges, and Agriculture, among others.”
She added: “We are also using this opportunity to tell the community to cooperate with us. The government has good plans for us. The reason why we are here is to help plan your community and make it a better place for you and our unborn children.”
A resident of Ohoghobi community, Micheal Long John, commended the state government for the initiative, lauding efforts to create an Edo Masterplan.
