Benin City – The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has commiserated with the Oshodin family of Benin Kingdom, over the demise of their son, Prof. Osayuki Oshodin, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin.

In a condolence message to the family of the deceased, the Deputy Governor stated that, ” it is with a deep sense of loss that l received the sad news of the passing of your beloved father, grandfather and brother, Prof. Osayuki Godwin Oshodin.

“Permit me to place on record that your father was a proud Edo son and distinguished academic cum astute administrator whose legacies were exemplary and remain a source of inspiration to many who crossed his path”.

According to the Deputy Governor, “as Director of Sports, University of Benin, Prof Oshodin brought his professional competence and robust experience to bear, culminating in winning laurels and he took the Great UNIBEN to the next level of sporting exploits among the comity of universities in Nigeria and beyond, especially at the Nigeria Universities Games (NUGA),West Africa Universities Games(WAUG) and other international competitive sporting events”.

“As a proud Alumnus, I wish to place on record that his well deserved appointment as Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN opened a new vista in the management and administration of public Ivory Towers in our dear country. Undoubtedly, UNIBEN became a citadel of academic excellence and moral renaissance”.

He continued: “Let me extend my profound condolences to the entire Oshodin family, both at home and in the Diaspora, including friends and associates for the irreparable loss of your patriarch, breadwinner and mentor”.

Shaibu condoled and admonished the family members and loved ones to keep his fond memories alive by imbibing his virtues and legacies”.

“It is my heartfelt prayers that the soul of your late father and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace, Amen. Accept my condolences, please,” he added.
