BENIN CITY- The Speaker , Edo State House of Assembly , Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun Ksc has enjoined Muslims in the state and Nigeria to celebrate the Eid- _el_ Kabir with prayers to Allah for the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians before, during and after the 2023 general election.

He made this known in a statement he personally signed, made available to Journalists through his Special Adviser on Media, Mrs.Ivy Ebojele as part of his message to felicitate with Muslim faithful on Eid-el-Kabir.

Rt.Hon.Onobun noted that although it was expected that families, friends, loved ones, and well wishers would gather in celebration of the season; it was also important for them not to lose sight of the exact definition of this auspicious occasion and the spirit of sacrifice it represented .

He further stated that the celebration was coming at a time when the country was in dire need of reprieve as regards the present socio -econimic woes involving high inflation rates, insecurity challenges in the form of banditry and terrorism all over; but urged all not to lose hope as the saying goes ” there is always light at the end of the tunnel”

The Speaker appealed to Muslims, in the spirit of the season, to see the occasion beyond slaughtering rams; but also as a time of sharing love, care, hope as well as material items with the less privileged persons, orphans and the destitutes in the society .

He further enjoined Muslim faithful to continually pray for peace in the country as the nation prepares for the forthcoming election adding that they should always preach peace and unity which was non-negotiable to move the country forward

He urged those who were yet to register for their permanent voters card to do so as it was the only means of ensuring that they vote credible leaders who would enthrone good democratic governance.
