BENIN CITY- The Edo State Police Command has put in place adequate proactive security measures to ensure peaceful and crime free Eid-el-kabir festivities in the state.

The commissioner of police in Edo State CP Abutu Yaro directed all tactical commanders, Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and their supervisory area commanders to emplace a watertight security in their various areas of operations before, during and after the Sallah celebration.

The police command stated this in a statement e-signed by its Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Jennifer Iwegbu and made available to journalists in Benin City, on Friday, July 8, 2022.

She stated further that CP Abutu Yaro also directed area commanders to increase police intensive patrol, traffic control officers, stop-and-search operations, raids on black spots and other crime-prone locations across the state.

ASP Iwegbu explained that the CP who warned personnel against unprofessional and uncivil conduct in handling members of the public, charged them to also employ other anti-crime strategies that would guarantee public safety during and after the festival.

“The CP has equally charged Tactical commanders, DPOs and their supervisory area commanders in the State to beef-up security in their AOR ahead of the Eid-el-kabir celebration to prevent any break down of law and order.

“The CP has also directed that supervisory Area commanders should ensure adequate deployment of officers and assets to prevent occurrence of crimes and criminality, as well as build confidence among the residents of the State.

“He further enjoins all Muslim ummah to be security conscious while celebrating Eid-el-kabir and report any suspicious individual, movement or criminal activities to the police”. She stated.

The statement enjoined the general public to keep collaborating with the command by way of availing the police with prompt information.

The Commissioner of Police called on the general public to cooperate with the police and other sister agencies deployed on duty at strategic places in the state for the celebration.

CP Abutu wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-el-kabir.

Recall that the Federal government of Nigeria has declared 11th and 12th July, 2022 public holidays for the celebration.
