Edo State Government will continue to collaborate with relevant Agencies to educate its 18 Local Government Areas on the importance of practicing personal hygiene and environmental health in order to achieve environmental sustainability in the State.
The Commissioner,  Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo, made this known while playing host to representatives of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), who were on an Advocacy visit to his office in Benin City.
Hon. Osaigbovo applauded the visit, adding that the Ministry is ready to collaborate with relevant Agencies that would foster Environmental Sustainability in the State.
He emphasized the need for continuous monitoring, sensitization and taking proactive measures to mitigate flooding, and harness waste management for the eradication of diseases in ensuring a clean and healthy Edo State.
 The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Dorcas Idehen noted that the visit was timely and assured NOA of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate and ensure that informations are passed down to the grassroots, as all hands must be on deck in mitigating all forms of menace in Edo State.
The State Director, National Orientation Agency, Edo State, Mr. Austin Odili, appreciated the Ministry for their prompt response to their visit, adding that the aim was to inform the Ministry of their activities and to seek collaboration especially in areas of sensitizing the Local Government Areas in Edo State regarding flooding and proper waste disposal.
He further informed the Ministry that the NOA has set up a para-military arm called The WAI Brigade Volunteers, who have been trained on intelligence gathering, maintenance of civil order in the society, to ensure environmental discipline. Adding that they are stationed in not just the State capital but also in the 18 LGAs, hence the need for collaboration with the Ministry to tackle improper waste disposal and mitigate flooding in Edo State.
