Benin City: Not fewer than 13 professional female clubs flying their trade at the top flight clubs in Nigeria are expected to compete for honour at the second edition of the Betsy Obaseki female football tournament billed to commence Wednesday September 7th, 2022.

Briefing Newsmen after inspecting the Samuel Ogbemudia’ s stadium, venue for the opening and closing ceremony of the football fiesta, the vision bearer of the tournament and wife of the governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki said all is set for the event as everything pertaining to successful hosting of the competition have been perfected.

Giving the prize money for the overall champion at the tournament to be #5 million, the first lady noted that the focus of the maiden edition was “Human Trafficking” while that of this year is going to centred on ” Drug Abuse” in Nigeria.

She further stated that beside playing football, all the razzmatazz of showbiz will be showcase by some selected secondary school students in the state, adding that her desire is to have a competition that is better than the previous edition even though that first edition was equally unique.

Addressing the issue of sponsorship, Mrs Obaseki reiterated that some notable individuals, organisations and some sport loving Nigerians have shown interest in the sponsorship of the tournament.

On whether the tournament would continue after leaving office, the first lady however hinted that the annual event has been institutionalised, it has come to stay and nothing shall by any means halts it’s continuity, stressing that with what is on ground so far the yearly female football fiesta has come to stay in Edo state.
