Benin City: Sports Equipment worth thousands of Naira was on Wednesday donated to St Michael Catholic Church Evboesi, Orhionmwion Local Government Area of the State by the Edo State Sports Commission.
Presenting the items to Rev Fr Anthony Aisosa Osawe, Parish Priest of the church,the chairman of the commission Mr Yussuf Alli said the donation is in line with the Governor Godwin Obaseki’ s commitment in developing sporting activities from the grassroot.
Mr Alli who charged the Parish to make jurdicous use of the items donated,noted that the zeal of the present administration in the state is to use sports to create wealth as well as enhanced creative minds amongst the youths so to redirect their minds from unwholesome activities that is detriment to the growth of the society.
He further reiterated that when the minds of the youths are fully engaged by meaningful venture it would be difficult for them to get involved in social vices, adding that it is the desire of the commission in collaboration with the Parish to use sports in the propagation of the work of God in the area.
Responding, the Parish Priest Rev Fr Anthony Aisosa Osawe promised to make jurdicious use of the ltems donated for the growth of sporting activities in the locality as well as for the propagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through sports.
Items donated includes, eight footballs, five volley balls, Table Tennis board and dozen of table tennis balls with Rackets.
