Edo State Government has recently awarded Akoko-Edo, Ovia South-West and Esan West as Best Performing, Second Best Performing and Third Best performing Local Government Areas in the on-going ramp up of COVID-19 Vaccination exercise respectively.

This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Hon. Commissioner of Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, who congratulated the LGAs, while acknowledging their strong leadership and support which has put the Local Government Areas in the position of honour.

According to the Commissioner, this commendable fit would not be achieved without the efforts of the team.

In a data collated by the Ministry of Health from April to June 2022, Akoko-Edo, Ovia South-West and Esan West ranked 20.3 percent, 16.5 percent and 14.5 percent respectively according to the percentage of target population that was vaccinated in each Local Government Area in Edo State respectively.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon, Monday Osaigbovo, while receiving representatives from the Awarded Local Government Areas in his office in Benin City, lauded the LGAs on this achievement and sued for continuous team work and diligence in their various jobs.

The ramp up of the COVID-19 Vaccination programme is being undertaken to achieve a herd immunity. This is to protect people against the COVID-19 virus. The Coronavirus is a communicable respiratory disease that causes illness in humans.
