BENIN CITY- BARRING any last minute change, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), is set to call-off its eight months industrial action (strike) as the National Executive Council (NEC) will today Thursday ratify the resolutions reached by all chapters nationwide at the end of the NEC meeting .

Flowing from the above development, the National body of the trade union after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting today is expected to issue a communique to officially end the strike.

It will be recalled that the union during its emergency local congresses held across the nation yesterday, arrived at the decision (though not made public) to call off the strike.

Confirming the report, sources from University of Benin and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma chapters of ASUU, said that the resolution from their congresses was for their members consumption alone.

The sources informed that the outcome of their resolutions would be communicated to members after its NEC meeting.

The decision of the union to call off the eight months industrial action is not unconnected with the recent intervention of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the Federal Government resolved to pay the striking lecturers their withheld salaries.

Also, the Court of Appeal Sitting in Abuja last Friday, ordered ASUU to comply within seven days with the earlier directives of the National Industrial Court in Abuja which ordered the Union to call off the strike.

Expectedly, Managements of the affected Universities are expected to call for the reopening of their schools immediately the strike is officially called off by ASUU.
