EKPOMA -The management of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, (ISTH), led by its Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Sylvanus Okogbenin has paid a condolence visit on the Onojie of Ekpoma, HRH Anthony Abumere ll to condole with him, over the death his mother, Queen Mother Mary Edede Akhimien nee Ibhafidon.

The late Queen Mother passed away on September 28, 2022 at the age of 76 years.

In his condolence Speech, the Chief Medical Director of ISTH, Prof. Sylvanus Okogbenin paid glowing tribute to the late Queen Mother, describing her as a great woman among women.

He stated that the life of the late queen mother was worth celebrating, pointing out that having raised a king like the monarch, nurtured him with the education and all the good things that he exhibits, she was truly worth celebrating.

Prof. Okogbenin explained that part of the reason for their visit was to console him, and inform him of their readiness to fully participate in the ceremony that would lead to the final resting of the queen mother.

“For somebody to have brought forth a king like you and nurtured him with all the education and all things that we see in you shows that there was a divine hand of God upon her life. That is why her life is worth celebrating.

“We have come here to let you know that we want to be fully involved in the ceremony that will lead to the final resting of mama, as a hospital and as an individual. My management team wants to truly participate in a way to show our love for mama, and our love and loyalty to you and the kingdom that you preside over.

He announced his management’s decision to write off the entire medical bill incurred during her treatment at the ISTH, adding that even the bills already settled would be refunded.

In his response, the monarch, HRH Anthony Abumere ll, thanked them for the visit, and also appreciated the special medical care and attention the hospital gave to his mother, while receiving treatment at the ISTH.

She described the death of his late mother as a great loss, and added that he was still finding it difficult to accept the reality of her demise.

He however gave God the glory for the fulfilled life that his mother lived on earth.
