The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, at the weekend, visited the Evbuomwan family to commiserate with them over the passing of their son, Dennis Evbuomwan, who died at the age of 66.

The governor was accompanied on the visit by his Chief of Staff, Osaigbovo Iyoha; Special Adviser to the Governor, Political (Edo South), Lady Uwa Osunbor, among others, and were received by the father of the deceased, Festus Evbuomwan.

Expressing shock over the sad incident, Obaseki said, “We are here to pay a condolence visit to daddy and the family over the death of my brother and good friend, Dennis Evbuomwan. This is not the kind of news you are expecting to hear as a father. But as a believer, you cannot question God as we have tried everything possible to get doctors to do their very best but God knows best.

“As a believer, we have no option but to thank God for his life. We are here to let you know that we feel your pain over this sad incident. On behalf of the Edo State Government, we are here to pay our condolences to members of this family.”

The governor added, “We grew up together under you and we know your disposition towards him and the rest of the extended family. This is not the kind of thing that anyone expects to happen. If it were in our hands as humans, we would have prevented it but God knows best. We have no option but to thank God for the life Dennis lived. We will join Frank and the other children to carry out the other rites.”

Speaking on behalf of the family, Arch. Francis Evbuomwan, thanked the governor and his entourage for the visit, adding, “Late Dennis Evbuomwan was a strong member of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a close friend to Mr. Godwin Obaseki.”

On his part, the father of the deceased hailed the governor for always supporting the family, noting, “I appreciate all you did for my son. I remember I sent you a text two days after my son’s death. People don’t know how close we were; they don’t know you grew up in my hands. When I see you around me like this, I feel sad because you are 11 months younger than my first son.”
